The roots of the plants easily penetrate the substrate and spread through it, allowing plants to obtain a variety of fundamental and readily available nutrients that will make them grow strong.

The incorporation of Micronutrients for Fluval plants will provide a complete supplement of essential macro and micronutrients. The structure of the substrate, which is light, porous and not compact, is also extremely beneficial for nitrifying bacteria, which quickly establish their colonies on the broad porous surface and, thus, provide optimum water quality for the plants. The inherent properties of Fluval Stratum will help maintain a neutral to slightly acidic pH, ideal for most plant species, and shrimp and tropical fish that normally live in aquariums with plants.

The Fluval substrate also provides newborn shrimp with an ideal refuge and allows them to escape predation until they are large enough to emerge. This extremely attractive substrate will not discolor water and will help control the organic discoloration that usually occurs when using natural floating wood.
